SLAPPs, Mazur and a public censure: what does the future hold for SRA regulation?
4 Jun 14:00 - 15:30
The SRA has faced intense criticism in recent months, following several high profile failings and a number of SDT and High Court decisions going against them. Our panel will share first-hand experiences having worked on several of the key cases, and comment on how we got here and what the future may hold.
The discussion will address:
1. SLAPPS – where are we and looking to the future
2. Mazur - Implications in practical terms for firms, the new Law Society practice note and any new guidance from the SRA
3. Dentons and the implications of that, including the future of AML regulation by the SRA following the handover to the FCA
4. S44B notices and privilege - the challenge by Carter Ruck
5. Looking to the future, what we think the future of SRA regulation will be, in the light of the above and other developments such as:
- Public censure / LSB criticism in Mazur of the lack of joined up thinking from the regulators
- Criticism in the Hurst decision
- The costs order in Gill
- SRA consultation on ethics
- SRA plans to “rebuild trust” – a cultural shift?
- The SRA’s new business plan
