International Consumer Enforcement: The UK Competition and Markets Authority's Expanding Reach.

3 Jun 11:30 - 13:00

Cross-border Disputes, Regulatory & Public Sector

The CMA’s new consumer enforcement powers extend beyond the UK’s borders and exposes any business engaging with UK consumers with potentially very large fines for breaches of UK consumer law. This session explores when and how the CMA can exercise its powers extraterritorially, the practical challenges of cross-border enforcement, what international businesses should expect, and practical insights as to their approach to dealing with CMA investigations and ensuring compliance in this 'new world' for UK consumer regulation.

In January, Taylor Wessing's offices in the UK, Ireland, Middle East, Netherlands, and Belgium announced that we'll be combining with Winston & Strawn to establish Winston Taylor, a new firm built for the businesses, people, and markets driving capital and innovation.

Upon completion, the combination will create one of the world's largest transatlantic law firms, with hubs in the US, UK, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East.
