Aviation Disputes in 2026: The Direction of Travel

During London International Disputes Week, Fieldfisher and XXIV Old Buildings will host a panel discussion on the latest developments in aviation disputes, with a particular focus on jurisdictional issues.
The session will cover the following topics:
- Jurisdiction in Major Aviation Accidents: Insights into the key jurisdictional issues in hull losses and passenger claims, including Air India and Leicester City FC.
- Who Really Owns the Aircraft? A discussion into aircraft ownership, loss and damage disputes, including the recent case of VietJet and the role of liquidated damages.
- Global Strategies for Recovering Aircraft: The challenges in obtaining and enforcing delivery up orders overseas in the context of aircraft leasing disputes.
- Keeping Aircraft Airworthy: Common cross border issues arising from maintenance and redelivery obligations.
- The Evolving Russian Aviation Insurance Claims: An update on the latest coverage and jurisdictional issues linked to Russia related aircraft claims.
- Lessons from Cross Border Aviation Insurance Litigation: A discussion of other insurance related disputes, including the case of LaMia 2933 and the fight for jurisdiction, coverage and compensation.
The event is aimed at those dealing with aviation disputes, as well as industry individuals such as lessors, insurers, and re-insurers. It will be held under the Chatham House Rule.
This is an in-person event, hosted at Fieldfisher LLP on Thursday 4 June at 4:30pm and will be followed by networking.
