Legally Bound: Navigating Risks and Rules for AI Companions
4 Jun 14:00 - 15:30
AI companions are rapidly becoming part of everyday life - powerful conversational chatbots designed to act as personal confidants. As their capabilities grow, so do the questions around safety, accountability, and how the law should respond.
Join us for an insightful panel discussion exploring the emerging risks and regulatory challenges surrounding AI companions, from griefbots to general purpose chatbots. While the UK has yet to see high-profile disputes, international cases and rising public concern are pushing this issue to the forefront.
Our panel will unpack two developments shaping the future of AI liability: LawtechUK's public consultation on how English common law should address harm caused by AI systems, and the EU's new Product Liability Directive, introducing strict liability on actors in the AI systems supply chain.
This session aims to equip businesses, developers and legal professionals with a clear understanding of the evolving responsibilities and potential exposures associated with deploying AI companions in the UK and beyond.
In January, Taylor Wessing's offices in the UK, Ireland, Middle East, Netherlands, and Belgium announced that we'll be combining with Winston & Strawn to establish Winston Taylor, a new firm built for the businesses, people, and markets driving capital and innovation.
Upon completion, the combination will create one of the world's largest transatlantic law firms, with hubs in the US, UK, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East.
