Debate: This House believes that ISDS should be abolished and replaced with a permanent international investment court

Investor State Disputes

Registration for this event will open shortly.

Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) has long been a cornerstone of international investment protection, offering foreign investors a direct mechanism to bring claims against host states. Yet it has also become one of the most contested features of the international economic order. This panel debate will explore whether ISDS has reached the end of its usefulness and whether a permanent international investment court offers a credible and superior alternative. Expect a lively clash between reformers armed with visions of judicial robes, appellate mechanisms and institutional gravitas, and defenders who warn that permanence can be just another word for paralysis. Come for the legal theory, stay for the procedural sparring, and leave with at least one strongly held opinion you didn’t have before. No treaties will be harmed in the making of this debate.
